ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This artwork presents a powerful reinterpretation of Napoleon, captured in a dynamic and almost cinematic posture, riding forward with intensity and control.
Rather than a classical and static representation, I chose to depict movement — a moment of action, ambition and determination. The composition emphasizes energy: the rearing horse, the flowing textures and the tension in the lines all contribute to a sense of unstoppable momentum.
The turquoise-toned background, created instinctively with layered textures, contrasts with the precision of the stencil work. This contrast reflects a central idea in my work: the balance between chaos and control, instinct and mastery — much like the figure of Napoleon himself.
A striking red drip appears on the right side of the composition, acting as a disruptive element. It can be interpreted as a symbol of conquest, conflict, or the human cost behind power and ambition. This detail introduces a second layer of reading, transforming the piece from a heroic portrait into a more complex and contemporary reflection.
The figure is built using my signature double-layer stencil technique, entirely hand-cut after a digital design process. Each cut is deliberate, each line contributes to the depth and structure of the image, resulting in a work that is both graphic and expressive.
This is not just a portrait of a historical figure — it is a reinterpretation of power, movement and legacy through a modern urban visual language.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alexandre Petrus is a French stencil artist known for his distinctive visual language, combining the raw energy of street art with the precision of hand-crafted technique.
Working exclusively with hand-cut stencils, he has developed a recognizable and refined signature style, where every line is carefully designed and manually executed. His work stands at the intersection of digital creation, traditional craftsmanship and contemporary urban art.
What defines his approach is a unique balance between control and spontaneity. While the subject is meticulously constructed through layered stencil work, the background is created instinctively, making each piece truly one of a kind. This philosophy — which he defines as “originality in repetition” — ensures that no artwork is ever reproduced or duplicated.
His creations explore a wide range of themes, from wildlife and human emotion to pop culture and classical reinterpretations, allowing his work to resonate with a broad international audience.
Over the years, Alexandre Petrus has built a growing base of collectors across Europe and internationally, attracted by the uniqueness, consistency and strong identity of his work.
Each artwork is an original piece — no prints, no editions — making every acquisition a unique and exclusive addition to a collection.
