This is a premium Japanese Black Raku tea bowl (Kuro-Raku Chawan), masterfully crafted by the renowned Kawasaki Waraku VII (Seventh Generation). The Kawasaki Waraku lineage is one of Kyoto’s most prestigious families specializing in Raku ware, with a history spanning over 100 years.

The Waraku kiln is located in the historic Gion district of Kyoto and is celebrated for maintaining the soul of traditional tea ceremony aesthetics (Wabi-Sabi).
Characteristics:
Technique:
Hand-molded without a potter’s wheel (Te-neke), following the authentic Raku tradition.
Glaze:
A deep, lustrous black glaze with subtle textures and "pinholes," characteristic of high-quality Black Raku fired at high temperatures and cooled rapidly.
Form:
The bowl features a robust yet gentle form that fits perfectly in the hands, designed specifically for the Way of Tea (Chado).
Seal:
The artist’s signature seal is impressed on the bottom of the bowl.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. No cracks or chips. (Please refer to the photos for details).
Accessories:
Comes with the original signed and sealed wooden box (Tomobako), which authenticates the piece.
