卖家的描述
Item Description:
伊藤公象 Ito Kosho(1932-2024)
This exceptional vase is a significant work by Ito Kosho, one of Japan's most internationally acclaimed ceramic artists, created in the Kasama ware tradition.
The piece showcases Ito's mastery of the "ta-nan-mentai" (multi-soft-faceted body) technique — his signature method of intuitively shaping thin-sliced clay to achieve organic, spontaneous forms that blur the boundary between human intention and natural force.
The irregular, layered surface texture creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, giving the vessel an almost geological presence.
Earthy tones and subtle glaze variations reflect the artist's lifelong philosophy of "humanity-free organicism" — allowing clay, fire, and chance to speak as co-creators.
Comes complete with the original signed wooden box (tomobako), confirming authenticity.
A rare opportunity to own a high-ranking work by an artist whose pieces are held in major museum collections in Japan and internationally.

Height: 9.5 cm
Width: 10.5 cm
Depth: 10.5 cm
Condition
The vase is in excellent condition with no notable scratches or soiling; the original signed wooden box (tomobako) is included.
Artist Profile
伊藤公象 Ito Kosho(1932-2024)
Ito Kosho (1932–2024) was a pioneering Japanese ceramic artist born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. Apprenticed at age 14 to Kutani master Nakamura Suiko after the wartime death of his father — a celebrated metalsmith — he absorbed the fundamentals of clay preparation, kiln work, and glaze formulation before leaving at 19 to forge his own path. After a decade working as a journalist and then in design, he turned to independent artistic practice, ultimately relocating to Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture in 1972, where he established his atelier "Sōdosha." It was there that he developed his landmark "ta-nan-mentai" (multi-soft-faceted body) series: spontaneously formed, thinly sliced clay structures that embody what he called "humanity-free organicism" — the pursuit of accidental, natural form through deliberate craft. He represented Japan at major international exhibitions during the 1970s–80s, earning gold medal recognition and establishing a global reputation. Major retrospectives were held at the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Modern Art (1996), the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art and Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum (2009). He held an honorary professorship at Kanazawa College of Art and remained active until his death at age 92 in July 2024.
