Val Saint Lambert – Luxval “Severina” Rosaline Butter Dish / Cheese Dome – Art Deco – Charles Graffart & René Delvenne ( circa 1935 )
A refined and highly collectible Art Deco butter dish or cheese dome from the renowned Belgian crystal manufacturer Val Saint Lambert, part of the iconic Luxval collection, designed around 1935 by celebrated designers Charles Graffart and René Delvenne.
This model, known as “Severina”, perfectly embodies the geometric elegance and modernist aesthetic of the Art Deco period. The piece is executed in pressed crystal, featuring a subtle soft pink (rosaline) tone, combined with a striking architectural pattern of linear and stepped motifs that beautifully catch and diffuse the light.
The domed cover is topped with a solid, sculptural handle, while the tray is designed with integrated side grips, making it both elegant and practical for table use. A perfect addition to a refined breakfast table, brunch setting, or for stylish presentation of butter, cheese, pastries, or small delicacies.
Rosaline-colored Val-Saint-Lambert Luxval bowl from the Severina model series. This large serving platter with three separate compartments is ideal for hors d’oeuvres. The bowl, designed by Charles Graffart and René Delvenne, can be found in the 1935 Val-Saint-Lambert catalog. (see photo)
In the 1930s and 1940s, luxury cut crystal was unaffordable for most people, and to meet a demand and compete with companies such as Walther-Glas & Scailmont, Val-Saint-Lambert founded Luxval. With this product line, pressed decorative Art Deco glassware was created by the best designers of the time, Charles Graffart and René Delvenne. Pressed glass is also known as depression glass, a term used in America. In Europe, the designs are more often classified under 'Art Deco' and 'Jugendstil'.
Although unsigned, this model is well-documented in Luxval catalogues and unmistakable in design.
