ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Up for auction is an impressive and fascinating traditional ink rubbing (Rubbing or Tàběn), offering significant decorative and historical value. The work depicts Wu Zetian (624–705 AD), the only woman in China's millennia-long history to have officially reigned as Emperor, founding her own dynasty (Zhou).

Work Details:

Subject: The portrait shows the Empress in finely decorated ceremonial robes. The calligraphic inscription on the right commemorates a key historical event: the suppression of the Yangzhou rebellion (684 AD), a decisive moment in the consolidation of her power.

Style: At the top, there are three large "Seal Script" (Zhuanzhu) characters. The graphic style is based on the famous stelae preserved in the Xi'an Stele Forest Museum.

Technique: Black ink on traditional rice paper (Xuan paper), created using the rubbing technique from an engraved slab.

Period: Second half of the 20th century (approx. 1970s-1980s), a peak period for museum-quality artistic rubbing production.

Provenance: Includes the rare original conservation envelope (32x22 cm) with original seals and titles.

Weight: 80 gr.

Dimensions: 92 cm (height) x 52 cm (width).

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. It features the natural storage folds due to the original envelope (as shown in photos), which certify its age. These folds tend to flatten out once the work is professionally framed or mounted.

An ideal piece for Asian art collectors or for high-end interior design.
