卖家的描述
Set of Nesting Baskets – Tusyan People – Burkina Faso – Plant Fibres & Leather – Mid-20th century
Details
Origin: Tusyan people
Country: Burkina Faso
Materials: Plant fibres, leather
Dimensions: D 13.5 cm; H 18 cm
Period: Mid-20th century (presumed)
Provenance: Collected in situ by the present owner in Burkina Faso in the 1990s
Description
Attractive set of Tusyan nesting baskets, hand-woven in plant fibres and finished with leather bindings. The set comprises ten baskets plus a small filler element used to help the smallest basket keep its shape. When stacked together, they form a compact and visually striking ensemble.
Such baskets were traditionally associated with wedding gifts and domestic presentation. This example is especially appealing for the warm patina of the fibres, the elegant rhythm created by the diminishing forms, and the tactile contrast between woven surfaces and dark leather rims. A refined and characteristic ethnographic set from southwestern Burkina Faso.
Condition
Wear, small losses, and surface irregularities consistent with age and use. Two intermediate baskets are notably damaged, as visible in the photographs. Overall, the set retains strong visual presence and good ethnographic interest. Please refer carefully to the photographs.
Included
Ten nesting baskets and one filler element only.
