Antique 19th-Century Silk Ikat Chapan — A Curator’s Artifact from the Global High Seas

Object Story & Provenance:This museum-scale silk Chapan is a rare "Warp-Resist" Ikat treasure, hand-selected twenty years ago in a specialist antique shop in the historic Old Quarter of Istanbul. I curated this piece during one of three professional circumnavigations of the globe aboard a private sailing yacht. It still retains the original Antique Store Label, which anchors its historic identity and provenance.

As a graduate of the Fashion Academy, I have preserved this piece in a private collection
for two decades as a sacred textile art display.

The "Eymen Halicilik" Label, They are a well-known and respected dealer in the Arasta Bazaar
(No. 107 Sultanahmet), located right behind the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. They specialize specifically
in Antique Textiles, Nomadic, and Tribal Art.

"Expert Note": "Acquired 20 years ago from the renowned specialist Eymen Halicilik in
Sultanahmet, Istanbul—experts in nomadic and tribal textiles."

Origin: TURKMEN. The Tekke or Ersari tribes of Turkmenistan are the masters
of this specific silk-on-silk embroidery.
Material: IPEK. This is the Turkish word for SILK.
Size/Type: ELBISE. This is Turkish for "Garment" or "Dress."

Technical Blueprint & Handcrafted Details:

The Silhouette: A majestic T-shaped architectural silhouette with an upright
Mandarin-style collar, heavily adorned with rhythmic, multicolored
silk-thread embroidery.

The Sleeves & Cuffs: Elongated sleeves (65 cm) featuring intricately embroidered
cuffs and hand-finished braided edging, designed to signify high status.

Internal Architecture: The robe is fully lined with a richly block-printed traditional
cotton, featuring vibrant 19th-century motifs.

The Lining: That fine vertical stripe is a classic hand-loomed
cotton/silk blend lining. It’s beautiful and perfectly period-correct.

The Airvents: A hallmark of authentic tribal tailoring, the garment features intact
underarm airvents within the lining, allowing for climate control and structural flexibility.

Materials: 100% Hand-loomed Natural Silk (Ikat) warp-resist weave, backed by a
high-quality Natural printed Cotton lining.

Condition Report (The "Unblinking Eye" Review):
This is an authentic 19th-century artifact. Consistent with its century-long lineage, the
exterior silk shows areas of natural "shattering" and fraying at the edges. These points
of age are documented with total transparency in the high-resolution imagery. The internal
cotton lining and complex embroidery remain in remarkably vibrant and stable condition.

Curator’s Note:
Due to its slim proportions and 160 cm wingspan, this piece is a magnificent
candidate for a framed textile art display or a high-ceiling "Still Point" in a modern interior.
