A vintage Japanese marine sextant manufactured by Tamaya & Co., Ltd. (玉屋商店), one of Japan's most respected makers of precision navigation instruments, based in Ginza, Tokyo since 1882.This is the Model 636 MS-2 (Type II), Tamaya's well-regarded full-sized marine navigation sextant, complete with its original signed wooden carrying case, factory plaque, instruction manual, and full set of accessories.The frame is a lightweight cast metal in the classic skeletal "ladder" pattern, finished in matt black, with a precision-graduated arc, micrometer drum, vernier scale, and a heavy 4× monocular telescope.The factory data plate inside the wooden case is stamped:
"TAMAYA & CO., LTD. NO. 22887 — GINZA TOKYO 1967 12"The arc of the sextant itself is engraved:
"TAMAYA & CO., LTD. No. 22827"
