The Lights of Chartres is one of the most important photographic series created by Eustachy Kossakowski – it is also an exceptional departure from black-and-white photography in favor of color. The artist documents the light gleaming on the walls of the medieval cathedral in Chartres. This impressive book, containing photographs from Chartres, published by Jean-Claude Lattes in 1989, was voted the most beautiful French book of the decade in a magazine Lire plebiscite. As a result of the very good reception of the series, Eustachy Kossakowski entered the history books of French photography.
