Aaron Fine was an American illustrator and designer active during the 1950s and early 1960s, best known for his stylish travel posters created for Pan American World Airways during the dawn of the Jet Age. His work combined mid-century modern design, bold colors, and playful cartoon-like figures, helping define the glamorous visual identity of international air travel in that era. Fine was also connected to the New York art scene and was reportedly a friend of Andy Warhol.
The poster “Paris, Pan American, 1950s (Tchin Tchin)” was originally produced around 1959 as a lithographic travel advertisement for Pan Am. The artwork depicts elegant Parisian characters raising champagne glasses against the backdrop of Paris, celebrating the sophistication and optimism associated with transatlantic jet travel at the time.

The phrase “Tchin Tchin” is a French toast equivalent to “cheers.” The poster was created just as Pan Am introduced its revolutionary Boeing 707 jet service, which dramatically reduced travel times between America and Europe. Posters like this were designed not only to advertise destinations, but also to sell the dream of glamorous international travel during the golden age of aviation.
