卖家的描述
6-person dinner service produced by Enoch Wedgwood, the famous decoration “Asiatic Pheasants”.
The set consists of 6 bowls and a serving tray.
The bowls measure 15x3.5 cm, the tray 24.5x7.5 cm.
All pieces are in excellent condition; please note that one bowl has been reglued (see the latest photographs).
The “Asiatic Pheasants” model by Enoch Wedgwood is one of the most classic and enduring designs in English ceramics, deeply linked to the tradition of so-called transferware, i.e., printed decoration on ceramic. It is a service in flintware (refined English earthenware) decorated with a monochrome cobalt blue print on a white background. The motif is easily recognizable: at the center appear two pheasants among blooming branches and lush foliage, while the rim is enriched with an ornamental frame with floral elements and slightly undulating.
From a stylistic point of view, the decoration draws on the Orientalist imagination very popular in 19th-century England, although in reality it is more of a Western reinterpretation than an authentic Asian representation. The design likely originated around the 1830s and became one of the most popular motifs in British ceramics, produced by numerous manufacturers; Wedgwood’s version is among the most widespread and recognizable.
