Nepalese Silver Mohar – Prithvi Bir Bikram (1898)!
Silver 1 Mohar coin from the Kingdom of Nepal. Struck under the reign of King Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah, this classic coin bears the Saka Era date of 1820 (which translates to 1898 AD).
The obverse features the King's name in Devanagari script neatly arranged within a central square, flanked by traditional symbols. The reverse displays a beautiful, 8-petaled lotus design containing the name of the patron saint, Gorakhnath, surrounding a central circle with a trident/dagger motif.
This 125+ year-old silver piece boasts a strong strike and fantastic character! It features a lovely, natural antique silver patina that provides excellent contrast for the intricate, raised Devanagari script and symbols. A wonderful, highly tactile piece of Himalayan history!
