卖家的描述
Ancient stone artefact,field-collected in the Sentani area of Sentani during the 1990s.
This substantial hand-carved stone implement was traditionally used for pounding sago, a staple food that has shaped life and survival in the lake and river communities of the region for generations. Its form is simple yet highly functional, shaped entirely by hand and long use, bearing the unmistakable marks of practical daily labor.
According to local knowledge and stylistic assessment, the object is believed to be well over 150 years old, placing it firmly in a pre-modern, pre-industrial context. It represents a period when tools were made slowly, used intensively, and passed through generations, often remaining within families or village groups for decades or even centuries.
The surface shows a deep, time-worn patina developed through prolonged use and natural aging. Subtle wear patterns and smoothing indicate repeated pounding of sago pith, reflecting both the physical demands of subsistence life and the essential role of sago processing in the cultural and economic fabric of the Sentani region.
A rare and evocative ethnographic object, this stone artefact stands as a direct link to traditional lifeways in Papua. It carries both archaeological and cultural significance, offering a tangible connection to the ingenuity and resilience of the communities that shaped and used it.
