varied selections of Neolithic flint scrapers & core tools (7 pieces)
Auction Title:
Set of 7 Neolithic Flint Implements – Scrapers & Core Tools (7.2–11.8 cm) – Old European Collection
Technical Description:
A highly interesting and diverse selection of five lithic artifacts from the Neolithic period, showcasing the practical tool variety of prehistoric daily life. This lot is characterized by robust core tools and specialized scrapers, knapped from premium quality flint with an appealing chromatic spectrum ranging from translucent honey-yellow to rich, deep amber and brown tones.
Main Specimens (up to 11.8 cm): The group includes heavy side-scrapers (racloirs), a specialized end-scraper, and unifacial cutting tools. Each piece features deliberate, steep marginal retouching designed to create a durable, sharp edge for processing wood, bone, or hides.
Technique: Excellent representative examples of domestic tool production, highlighting the efficient utilization of flint nodules and clear signs of ancient edge-wear from functional use.
Dating & Culture:
Period: Middle to Late Neolithic.
Date: Approx. 4500 – 2500 BC.
Culture: Consistent with the developed Western European Neolithic lithic traditions (such as the Chasséen and related regional cultures).
Origin: From an old European private collection formed in the mid-20th century.
Certificate of Authenticity is included.
Condition:
Excellent archaeological condition. All five pieces are completely authentic and structurally intact, with no modern modifications, re-chipping, or restorations. The surfaces preserve a beautiful, genuine soil-derived patina and natural mineralization.
Dimensions:
Maximum length: 11.8 cm
Minimum length: 7.2 cm
