Simon Peter Gerz Westerwald Stoneware Tobacco Jar with Pipe Smoker Finial

Germany, circa 1890–1910. Large salt-glazed stoneware tobacco jar produced by Simon Peter Gerz, a well-known Westerwald ceramics manufacturer. Decorated in deep cobalt blue relief with traditional floral and thistle motifs characteristic of Rhineland stoneware from the late 19th to early 20th century.

The lid is crowned with a seated pipe smoker figure, a form closely associated with German tobacco storage jars of this period. The cylindrical body, applied side handles, and dense cobalt ornamentation reflect the functional yet decorative character of Westerwald pottery.

Condition is good for its age, with normal age-related wear and minor traces of use. The structure remains stable and decorative. Please examine all photos carefully, as the item will be shipped exactly as shown.
