Apothecary Chevon in Tin Glazed Faience - Inscription "BALS: COPAYU" - 18th Century

Exceptional pharmacy pot in the form of a chevrette in tin-glazed faience, an authentic collectible piece from the 18th century. This container, intended for the storage and serving of liquid balms, features remarkable iconography and calligraphy.

Manuscript inscription in blue capital letters "BALS: COPAYU" (for Balsamum Copaybae). The Balm of Copaiba, imported from South America, was a precious remedy in the old pharmacopoeia, used mainly as a healing agent and antiseptic.

Besides the frontal inscription, the piece is adorned with a polychrome decor (putto and floral motifs) typical of the great European tin-glazed pottery manufactories of the 18th century.

White enamel with tin glaze covering showing dense and regular craquelure, characteristic of natural and authentic aging.

Condition: Very good original condition. There are some minor nibbling at the foot and at the spout, as well as slight enamel wear at the neck, which confirms its age and authenticity. No major cracks or restorations detected.
