This object reproduces a design favored by Tantansai, the 14th head of the Urasenke school. It features plum blossoms illuminated by night moonlight rendered in gold on a red-lacquered vessel. The main body is finely faceted, and the interior is finished with a gold nashiji surface.
Artist Profile:
Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1932. While maintaining his residence in Kyoto throughout his life, his work was conducted at a workshop in Yamanaka-machi, Ishikawa Prefecture, a location famous for Yamanaka lacquerware and Kutani ware.
