What makes this coin truly special is its official "Vliegenthart" pedigree. The coin originates from the famous shipwreck of the Vliegenthart, an East Indiaman (Spiegelretourschip) belonging to the VOC (Dutch East India Company). It sank off the coast of Zeeland in January 1735, shortly after departure, carrying a substantial cargo of gold and silver. The wreck was rediscovered in the 20th century, yielding these beautifully preserved gold ducats.
