Book-Shape Pocket Lighter
Period: Circa 1920 - 1930 (Interwar Period / Art Deco Style)
Fuel: Gasoline
Technical Condition: 100% Mechanically Functional (delivered without gasoline for safety reasons during transport).
Mechanical Specifications and Mode of Operation (100% Manual)
The piece is distinguished by a simple and robust mechanical construction, based entirely on manual operation, without trigger springs or buttons:
Hinge Opening: The cylindrical spine of the book functions as a protective cover mounted on a hinge-type pivot. It is manually folded at a 90-degree angle to expose the ignition zone.
Classic Ignition: Spark generation is completely manual, by directly turning the vertically mounted toothed wheel with your finger.
Mechanical Condition: Excellent. The spine hinge slides smoothly, without structural play or deformation, ensuring a firm closure. The toothed wheel has well-defined grooves and produces a strong spark. The original cotton wick is intact and included in the housing.
Materials, Design and Features
Bicolor Construction (Brass and Copper): The main body ("covers") is made of solid brass plates. The spine of the book includes three prominent ornamental "ribs" made of reddish copper, a finish also found on the two corner pieces applied at opposite angles to imitate the binding of a luxury volume.
Hand Engraving: The main face features a period hand engraving, executed in a fine cursive style, with the name/monogram Lily.
Interior ("Pages"): The interior edges are made of a cast silver metal cartridge, processed with fine parallel striations that faithfully imitate the overlapping pages of a book.
Conservation: The piece retains a superb natural historical patina, untouched by abrasive substances. It presents micro-surface scratches specific to age and handling, which attest to its authentic age of almost a century
