Rosemarie Benedikt began her training at the Vienna Fashion School Hetzendorf with the subject textile design. After five years of training from 1954 to 1959, she was selected from several applicants to work for the porcelain manufacturer Rörstrand in Lidköping. Here she first came in contact with this material, which became decisive for her further artistic path. Until 1964 she worked as a designer for the manufactory in Sweden. After her return to Vienna, she was appointed as a lecturer at the University of Applied Arts, from 1975 to 2000 she taught there as assistant professor. Since the mid-1970s she has been running her own studio in Vienna. In 1987 and 1988, she attended postgraduate courses at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle. Since 1993 she works as a designer for Villeroy & Boch. Starting in 2006, in addition to their original porcelain figurines, partly monumental glass sculptures in Murano were created. In 2005 her work was awarded the Austrian Culture Prize.
Numerous works are in museums and private collections at home and abroad.
From 1993 Rosemarie Benedikt completed numerous study trips. In 1993, she temporarily lived as Artist in Residence in Fujino, Japan and traveled to Taiwan. In 1997 and 2000 she was in Mexico and in 2004 on the occasion of the jubilee 1000 years porcelain in China. Since 2006 she spends time on Murano and works there at the renowned glass manufacturer Berengo Fine Arts on her glass worlds.
