SHIMADZU “Mei” Satsuma Kiriko Cut Glass Small Plate - Japan

This elegant small plate was produced under the supervision of the Shoko Shuseikan Museum, an institution dedicated to preserving the historic craftsmanship of Satsuma glassware established under the Shimadzu clan.

The piece features beautifully layered colored overlay glass enhanced with finely executed Satsuma Kiriko cut patterns.
Its refined frosted finish and intricate geometric cuts create a sophisticated interplay of light, color, and transparency, highlighting the distinctive gradation effect for which Satsuma Kiriko is renowned.

Bearing the “SHIMADZU” mark, this work reflects the rich legacy of traditional Kagoshima glassmaking that originated in the mid-19th century under the patronage of the Shimadzu family.

A fine example of contemporary Japanese cut glass artistry, combining traditional craftsmanship with elegant decorative design.
