Dial/hands: raised luminous markers and luminous cathedral hands.
Description
Up for auction is a magnificent piece of German horological history: an oversized Junghans travel alarm clock dating to approximately 1925. Measuring an impressive 67mm in diameter, this timepiece was engineered to serve a dual purpose—carried as a alarm clock during travel, or on a bedside table as a reliable morning alarm.
Unlike cheaper pin-lever alarm clocks of the era, this premium model features a 7-jewel movement (stamped "7R" for 7 Rubis). This high-grade engineering ensures less friction on vital pivots, which is exactly why this centenarian timepiece is still in wonderful working order today.
Aesthetic & Markings:
Dial: Features a highly collectible Art Deco look. The dial face beautifully matches the case body. It bears the classic early-20th-century Junghans logo: a large "J" with "junghans" written in lowercase inside an 8-pointed star. Hour markers are raised vintage luminous compound.
Movement: The caliber is beautifully stamped with "Junghans" in an elegant, ornate script alongside the internal reference number 90502.
Case Back / Internal Bell: The interior metal cover that acts as the sound chamber/bell for the alarm features the "7R" stamp and the identical Junghans star trademark logo.
Condition Report:
Mechanical: Very good for its age. Both the timekeeping mechanism and the loud mechanical alarm function are fully operational. The clock winds smoothly, rings loudly, and keeps good time for a vintage piece of this era.
Cosmetic: Good, honest vintage state. The front case, crystal glass, and dial (no cracks) are in very good shape with minimal signs of aging. The back of the case displays beautiful character and authentic patina; the original chrome plating has worn away over the last century due to handling.
