Antique Araipatti silver belt, South India (Tamil Nadu), circa 1900, with rare screw clasp.

This handcrafted belt is composed of multiple articulated silver panels, mounted on a finely woven silver band with alternating round, rectangular and floral elements.

The panels are decorated with repoussé (chased) depictions of mythical creatures and floral motifs.
