ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan signs a pop, firmly offbeat mashup, transforming a proud Japanese warrior into a true icon of old-school hip-hop. Strapped into his sumptuous purple-and-gold battle attire, traditional topknot and neatly trimmed beard, the hero sports the nonchalance of an 80s B-boy: black sunglasses, orange headset on the ears and radio-cassette (boombox) perched on the shoulder. Under the banner “メドサン” (Medsan), this unique splash extends the artist’s playful anachronism series.
The visual force of the composition lies in its bold graphic language: flat, vivid colors, pronounced black outlines, and a clean green background that makes the costume’s richness stand out, entirely covered in swirling cloud motifs. The hero’s proud bearing and the delicacy of his ornaments directly cite the Edo-period warrior print (musha-e), in the lineage of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, here electrified by a pop palette and streetwear attitude.
The impact of the work comes from its jubilant insolence: the timeless nobility of the samurai collides head-on with the swag of origin hip-hop. Medsan plays with the meeting of two cultures of honor and posture — bushidō and the street — to celebrate, with malice, a certain idea of style that crosses eras.
A fun, graphic piece full of attitude, ideal to bring a colorful, pop and musical touch to a contemporary interior — a perfect nod for lovers of Japanese culture, music and urban culture.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Set up as a true artistic production hub, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo follows a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, brut art and figurative abstraction. Each work is thought, realized and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
