A quietly elegant tea caddy where ancient pines glow in gold against deep black lacquer.
This *hira-natsume* (flat-form tea caddy) by Zuiun (瑞雲) is finished in lustrous black urushi lacquer, with a venerable old-pine motif rendered in gold maki-e flowing across the lid and around the body.
The contrast between the mirror-black ground and the warm gold needles and bark gives the piece a calm, dignified presence on the tea table.
The lower body shifts to a softly textured brown ground, adding depth and a sense of seasoned age.
As a *hira* (low, flat) form, it carries a refined, understated character favoured in the tea ceremony.
The caddy comes complete with its original signed wooden box (*tomobako*) and protective cloth (*tomogire*), confirming authorship and adding to its value as a collectible piece of Japanese lacquer art.

Zuiun (瑞雲) is the art name (*gō*) signed on the box of this work. Maki-e lacquer caddies of this kind belong to a long tradition of Japanese tea-ware craftsmanship, in which artisans apply gold and silver powders onto urushi lacquer through painstaking, layered techniques. Each piece is entirely hand-finished, and the old-pine (*oimatsu*) motif — a classic symbol of longevity and steadfastness — is a beloved subject in tea utensils.
