卖家的描述
AKIYAMA Iwao (秋山巌, 1921–2014)
"Niwa" (二羽) — "The Pair / Two Owls" (title reading to be confirmed)
Technique: Woodblock print (mokuhanga), Sōsaku-hanga, on flecked handmade washi
Date: 2014
FormatApprox. 30 × 24 cm (11¾ × 9½ in)
Signature: Hand-signed, titled and dated in pencil in the lower margin; red artist's seal "Iwao" (巌) at lower right
----------------------------------------------------------------
Condition
A fresh, well-inked impression. Two owls stand shoulder to shoulder, their bodies reduced to dense black blots with the ragged, wood-grained edges that are Akiyama's signature — deliberately unschooled, deliberately alive. The paper is in excellent condition.
-------------------------------------------------------
About the artist
Akiyama Iwao (1921–2014) trained first as an oil painter before woodblock printmaking under Shikō Munakata between 1959 and 1965 reshaped his whole approach. From then on he worked in a folk-art register — black sumi on rough mulberry-fleck washi, sparing red accents, gentle humour — and became internationally beloved for his owls, cats and wandering monks. This 2014 design dates to the final year of his life.
