Michael Graves' personal formal language combines influences from European tradition, Art Deco, and American Pop Art with memories of pre-Columbian cultures. The American designer possessed the unique ability to charm the general public like few other designers in the Alessi catalog.

Born in Indianapolis, Michael Graves taught architecture at Princeton starting in 1962. His notable architectural works include the Portland Building, the Humana Building, the expansion of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Newark Museum. For Alessi, he created the best-selling 9093 kettle. Michael Graves passed away in 2015.

Unlike modern reissues, this tray features the historic stamped hallmark on the bottom with the 'Italy' inscription, typical of the original period production in Omegna. An authentic piece of Italian postmodern design, now discontinued in this specific branding variant.
