卖家的描述
Set of Three Ritual Healers’ Tools – Sunda Islands, Indonesia – Field Collected in the 1970s
A rare and evocative set of three wooden ritual implements collected in the Sunda Islands, Indonesia, during fieldwork in the 1970s.
These objects were reportedly used by traditional healers, shamans, or medicine men in the context of indigenous healing practices and ritual ceremonies. Hand-carved from wood and showing clear signs of age and use, the tools embody a rich tradition in which the physical and spiritual worlds were closely intertwined. In many communities of the Sunda Islands, healers served as intermediaries between humans, ancestors, and unseen forces, employing ritual objects such as these during curing ceremonies, protective rites, divination, and spiritual consultations.
Each piece displays individual characteristics resulting from hand craftsmanship and prolonged use. The surfaces have developed a deep, natural patina, with wear patterns that testify to their age and authenticity. Together, the three implements form an impressive and coherent group, illustrating an important aspect of traditional Indonesian ritual life.
