What this means for you:

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me before bidding. Thank you for your understanding.

Shipping method: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL or FedEx or EMS depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customs or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.

A striking two-tiered Japanese lacquerware jubako (stacking food box) decorated in the classic maki-e tradition. The exterior presents a deeply lustrous jet-black lacquer ground (kuro-urushi) adorned with an elegant and auspicious composition in gold maki-e: a pair of cranes (tsuru) in graceful mid-flight pose, accompanied by pine branches (matsu) rendered with exquisitely fine needle-like detail, and folding fans (ogi) decorated with additional botanical motifs. A silvered crescent moon provides a luminous accent behind the cranes on both the lid and the body panels. All four sides of both tiers carry continuous decorative scenes in the same theme, ensuring the box is visually magnificent from every angle.
The cranes and pine are among the most revered symbols in Japanese culture — cranes representing longevity, fidelity, and good fortune, while pine evokes endurance and nobility. Together with the fans, which symbolize prosperity and the unfolding of good things to come, this composition would have been considered highly auspicious for celebration or gift-giving occasions such as New Year (Oshogatsu), weddings, and formal banquets.
The interior of both tiers is finished in deep black lacquer with a warm gold border lining. The inner base of the lower tier is decorated with three circular family crest (kamon) designs in gold maki-e: a chrysanthemum-plum roundel, a bamboo-and-leaf roundel, and a third featuring a bird motif — indicative of a commission for a specific household. The gold rim banding (gold lacquer edging) on the top, sides, and base of both tiers gives the piece a refined, formal character.
No maker's signature or period inscription is present. The precise date of manufacture is not determined, but the quality of the lacquerwork and the stylistic vocabulary are consistent with mid-to-late 20th century Japanese craft production. No storage box is included.
