This substantial globular vase from Fukagawa Seiji, the celebrated Arita porcelain house, displays the house's signature Ko-Imari palette in full richness. Against a luminous white ground, gnarled plum branches rendered in the iconic "Fukagawa blue" stretch across the entire body. Clusters of chrysanthemum and plum blossoms bloom in deep coral red and burnished gold, accompanied by sprays of bamboo in fresh green — a composition evoking the classic Japanese motif of the Three Friends of Winter. Gilt accents rim the mouth and foot, and gilded detail threads throughout the painted surface, all retaining excellent luster. The base bears the impressed "深川製" kiln mark. A commanding presence for an alcove, display cabinet, or entrance hall.

Founded in 1894 in Arita, Saga Prefecture, Fukagawa Seiji received the Gold Medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition and was appointed purveyor to the Japanese Imperial Household in 1910 — a relationship that continues to this day. The translucent white porcelain body and the luminous cobalt known as "Fukagawa Blue" remain the defining hallmarks of the house.

Fukagawa Seiji (深川製磁), established 1894 in Arita, Saga Prefecture, Japan. Founded by Chuji Fukagawa, the company won the Gold Medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris and in 1910 was appointed purveyor to the Japanese Imperial Household Agency — a distinction it continues to hold. Fukagawa Seiji is renowned for its translucent white porcelain body and the vivid cobalt underglaze known as "Fukagawa Blue," produced entirely in-house from raw materials through to final decoration. The company maintains the largest skilled artisan workforce in Arita and has supplied the Imperial Household continuously for over a century.
