卖家的描述

# Teraike Shizuto (b. 1933) – White Porcelain "Saiten" Vase with Camellia Relief – Signed, with Original Tomobako

A quietly luminous vase by Kyoto master Teraike Shizuto, capturing the beauty of a single blossom in living white porcelain.

The body is thrown in fine white porcelain and decorated in the *saiten* tradition inherited from his teacher, the Cultural Merit laureate Yaichi Kusube. A camellia is rendered in soft relief, its petals left in pure milky white while the surrounding surface is veiled in a warm amber-beige glaze — as if the flower is emerging from morning mist. The contrast between the smooth bloom and the textured ground gives the piece a gentle, painterly depth that rewards close viewing.

Substantial yet graceful in the hand, this is a refined example of postwar Kyoto studio porcelain by an internationally awarded artist. It is signed on the base and accompanied by its original signed wooden box (tomobako) — highly desirable for collectors of modern Japanese ceramics.

【Artist Profile】

Teraike Shizuto (b. 1933, Kyoto) was born into a family of potters, the son of ceramic artist Teraike Toshu. He studied under Yaichi Kusube, the founder of the celebrated *saiten* glazing technique. In 1974 he was awarded the Grand Honour Prize at the Vallauris International Ceramics Biennale in France, and in 1994 received the Minister of Education Award at the Japan New Crafts Exhibition. His work is characterised by floral motifs that fuse modern sensibility with masterful glaze and wheel-thrown form.
