卖家的描述
Ring – Fulani / Peulh – West Africa – Low-grade silver – First half of the 20th century
Origin: Fulani / Peulh people
Region: West Africa
Material: Low-grade silver
Dimensions: top length 28 mm; ring diameter approx. 21 / 22 mm
Period: First half of the 20th century
Provenance: Collected in situ by the present owner in the early 1990s
A fine old Fulani ring from West Africa, distinguished by its strong geometric top and its beautifully time-softened surface.
This example is especially appealing for the clarity of its design. The bezel is conceived as a raised lozenge with a softly cushioned profile, framed by small trilobate projections at the four angles. The result is both simple and highly effective: a compact form with a strong graphic identity, typical of the restrained elegance found in Fulani metal adornment.
What gives the ring much of its charm is its honest age and evident long use. The surface shows substantial wear, which has softened the relief and smoothed the metal, while preserving the essential strength of the composition. The hoop has become quite thin over time and is now slightly out of round, but this does not diminish the presence of the piece; on the contrary, it reinforces its authenticity and lived character.
Both ornament and small sculptural object, the ring stands out for its balance, its sobriety, and the quiet refinement of its form.
A very attractive old Fulani ring, appreciated for its age, its elegant geometry, and its beautifully worn surface.
Condition
Heavy wear, abrasions, and surface irregularities consistent with age and prolonged use.
The hoop has become thin and is slightly deformed.
No major damage observed. Please refer to the photographs.
Included
The ring only.
No stand included.
