卖家的描述
Dogon / Tellem 风格的头枕 – 马里 – zoomorphic 木制形态
Details
Origin: Mali
People / Cultural area: Dogon / Tellem tradition
Material: Wood
Dimensions: 38 cm long; 16 cm high
Period: first half of the 20th century
Provenance: Former French private collection
Description
An elegant wooden headrest from Mali, in the Dogon / Tellem tradition.
The object is remarkable for its highly sculptural construction and its subtle zoomorphic presence. The elongated side elements evoke the silhouette of a horse in a restrained and abstract way, without becoming overly figurative. This balance between function and suggestion gives the piece a strong vernacular elegance.
The upper rest is gently curved and decorated with a sober incised ornament, now softened by age and handling. The whole object rests on a long base and is supported by two central uprights, giving it a light but stable architectural structure.
The surface shows a dry patina, slightly crusty in places, with wear, abrasions and variations of tone consistent with age and use. The form remains very expressive, with a strong profile and a quiet sculptural presence.
A very appealing Dogon / Tellem-style headrest, appreciated for its elegant horse-like evocation, its balanced construction, and its dry, time-softened surface.
Condition
Good condition overall, with wear, cracks, abrasions, small losses and surface irregularities consistent with age and use.
The upper rest has been re-glued by a previous owner.
Dry patina, slightly crusty in places.
Please refer to the photographs.
Included
The object only.
