卖家的描述
victorian complete fish service for 12 people, attributed to Atkin Brothers, Sheffield, dated 1887.
Composition verified, 24 pieces:
- 12 fish knives
- 12 4-tork fish forks
Handle material: celluloid/ivorine-type material, cream color with warm, even patina.
The lot is sold exactly as visible in photos, with purchaser accepting this uncertainty about handle material.
Blades and tines: EPNS silver-plate, with incised vegetal/floral motif, wear consistent with age. No solid silver title detected.
Gilding: silvered metal, basket-weave-like design, all secure.
Markings: ABMS stamp readable on blades – attributed to Atkin Brothers, Sheffield. Other marks difficult to read due to wear/patina. Please assess from high-resolution attached photos. No guarantee on secondary marks. The set is offered as EPNS silver-plate, not Sterling 925.
Original period case:
- Walnut wood, rectangular shape
- Lid with hand-engraved brass cartouche, intertwined monogram A R and date 1887
- Front Secure Lock, with original functioning key tied with string
- Rear brass hinges, functioning
- Inside lined in gold-colored satin, with slots for 12+12 pieces
- Outer green baize lining
- Case dimensions: approx. 29 cm wide x 26 cm deep x 6.5 cm high
- Flatware dimensions: approx. 21 cm in length
Detailed conditions:
Flatware: complete and homogeneous set. Silvering with age patina, surface oxidation and signs of use consistent, no significant loss of gilding. Handles are stable and intact, cream tones uniform, 2-3 pieces with fine longitudinal crazing from age, no breakages, no repairs, no missing pieces. Gilded rims all secure.
Case: solid, functional, key works. Wood shows normal wear, light scratches, small chips along the back edge, one dark finish spot on a front-right corner, scattered finish wear. Interior green cloth with fraying and small corner losses. Satin lining shows wear and light dust from age, no major tears.
Overall condition good and original, consistent with a table piece from 1887, never aggressively restored.
Please carefully review all high-resolution photos, an integral and substantial part of the description.
Provenance documented:
Antiquarian certificate "ANTICHITA NUMISMATICA E FILATELICA GALLERIA D'ARTE MODERNA di ORFINO VINCENZO – Mestre / Jesolo", dated 19/02/1982, addressed to Gilardini Olcio, with description "Numero 24 scatola originale di coltelli e forchette", period indicated "1800 / 1900".
