A commanding presence with quiet elegance — this large bronze-style vase by Zuiho exemplifies the refined craft tradition of Takaoka Copperware. The vessel features a pair of boldly sculpted dragon handles (ryuji), their coiling forms emerging from the shoulders of the vase in the manner of classical Chinese bronze vessels. The body is finished in a rich patination of deep teal-green and warm russet-brown mottling, characteristic of Takaoka's celebrated surface coloring techniques. Takaoka Copperware was designated a traditional craft by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1975.
