Item Description

This lot brings together two charming works by Japan's beloved cat-art community — a limited edition copper plate etching and a beautifully illustrated art book celebrating feline-themed printmaking.

1) Copper Plate Etching "Baby" by Emi Sato
A tender mezzotint/copper etching portrait of a wide-eyed kitten, rendered in Sato's signature soft, richly-textured black-and-white style. Emi Sato is known for her intimate copperplate and mezzotint studies of cats, capturing warmth and personality with delicate line work and tonal depth. This piece, titled "Baby," is a limited numbered edition (1/30), hand-signed by the artist, and presented in a natural wood-tone frame with a wide ivory mat — ready to display straight out of the box.

2) Art Book "Tokoton Neko Hanga" ("Cat Prints, To the Fullest")
A delightful compendium bringing together four of Japan's most celebrated cat-loving printmakers: Takashi Ohno (Ohno Takashi, b. 1951), Akiko Ikeda, Emi Sato, and Mao Yamaguchi. The book showcases each artist's distinctive take on feline subjects — from Ohno's playful woodblock cats with witty wordplay, to Ikeda's expressive linework, Sato's atmospheric copperplate studies, and Yamaguchi's bold graphic figures. Beyond the artwork itself, the book offers a rare behind-the-scenes look into each artist's studio and creative process, functioning almost as a friendship chronicle between the four. This copy retains its original commemorative postcard insert.
Together, this lot offers collectors both an original hand-pulled print and a rich visual reference into the world of Japanese contemporary cat printmaking.

Artist Profile
Emi Sato (佐藤恵美 Sato Emi) is a Japanese printmaker specializing in copperplate etching and mezzotint, primarily depicting cats alongside other animals and plants. After graduating from the design department of Musashino Art University's junior college, she began working as a printing assistant at a copperplate workshop, which led her into her own printmaking practice from 1996 onward. Since then she has exhibited regularly in solo and group shows, including multiple selections in the CWAJ Print Exhibition and the UK Miniature Print Exhibition, as well as the Cadaqués International Mini Print exhibition.
In 2004 she co-authored "Tokoton Neko Hanga" together with Takashi Ohno, Akiko Ikeda, and Mao Yamaguchi.
Takashi Ohno (大野隆司 Ohno Takashi, b. 1951), a woodblock printmaker born in Katsushika, Tokyo, is celebrated for his warm, anthropomorphic cat woodcuts paired with witty wordplay and short uplifting messages. Self-taught, he was inspired to pursue printmaking after encountering the work of Yasunori Yanaka.
Akiko Ikeda (池田あきこ Ikeda Akiko) and Mao Yamaguchi (山口マオ Yamaguchi Mao) are both well-known Japanese illustrators celebrated for their distinctive cat-themed print and illustration work and are the remaining two contributing artists featured in this book.
