Item description

This elegant Shino ware vase by Hatano Masanori features a rounded body rising to a flared trumpet neck, finished in the thick, milky white feldspathic glaze characteristic of the tradition. Bold vertical streaks of grey and iron-brown run down the body, a hallmark decorative technique of Shino ware, alongside fine natural crackling in the glaze; both are inherent characteristics of the firing process rather than damage.

No maker's mark is found on the body itself, but the accompanying wooden storage box bears a brush inscription reading Shino Tsubo along with the artist's signature, Masanori-saku, and a red seal, confirming the attribution.

A refined example of traditional Mino-region Shino ware, well suited for display or as a flower vase.

Condition

The piece is in clean condition overall with no notable damage; the streaked glaze pattern and fine natural crackling are inherent to Shino ware and not defects. Minor wear is noted near the knob of the box lid.

Hatano Masanori is the potter attributed on the accompanying wooden storage box, which is signed Masanori-saku and bears a red seal. Further biographical details could not be confirmed at this time.
