About the Artist

Shima Yukihiro (born 1937) was born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. He entered the Bizen Ceramic Center in 1967 and later instructed trainees after completing the program. In 1972 he established his own kiln in Bizen and has continued producing Bizen ware while participating in solo and group exhibitions. In 2011 he was officially certified as a Traditional Japanese Craftsman (Dentō Kōgeishi).
