William Morris (Walthamstow, 24 March 1834 – London, 3 October 1896) was a British artist and writer.

Strawberry Thief reproduces one of William Morris’s most recognizable designs and, in our opinion, is also the most iconic work in Arts and Crafts style. He originally created the tapestry after watching birds stealing strawberries from the garden of his Gloucestershire home, Kelmscott Manor.

Morris was among the leading founders of the Arts and Crafts movement; he is considered a forerunner of modern designers and had a significant influence on architecture and architects of his time.

Many regard him as the father of the Modern Movement, although he was not an architect himself. He founded a design studio in collaboration with artist Edward Burne-Jones and the poet and artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who deeply influenced church and house decoration in the twentieth century.
He also made an important contribution to the revival of traditional textile arts and their production methods.
