The obverse shows Saint Benedict holding the Cross and his Holy Rule. He is the patron saint of protection against evil, witchcraft and poison. The inscription around him is a prayer for his protection at the hour of death.

From this spiritual authority the Saint Benedict medal was born, engraved with Latin phrases from ancient exorcisms, including “Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux” (May the Holy Cross be my light) and “Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux” (Let not the dragon be my guide). This medal is still used today in exorcism rituals, as a powerful shield against evil, a spiritual protection recognized by the Church and transmitted through the centuries.
