Agon premium Clubmaster “Disappearing Dial” – Swiss Made Mechanical Mystery Watch – Rare 1970s Space Age Design
Offered is a highly unusual and increasingly collectible Agon Clubmaster mechanical wristwatch, manufactured in Switzerland during the golden era of experimental 1970s watch design.
At first glance, the watch appears almost abstract: a deep black dial hidden beneath a raised crystal creates a fascinating “Disappearing Dial” effect, where the hands seem to float in space. The minimalist layout is interrupted only by a single white arrow marker at 12 o’clock, producing a striking futuristic appearance that perfectly captures the Space Age aesthetic of the period.
Unlike traditional vintage watches that focus on complications, the Clubmaster was designed as a statement piece. Its clean monochromatic dial, floating hands, and cushion-shaped case make it an excellent example of the bold design language that emerged from Switzerland during the early 1970s.
The watch is powered by an original Swiss hand-wound mechanical movement. The movement is marked:Swiss Unadjusted
This type of movement belongs to the family of reliable Roskopf-inspired Swiss calibres that helped make mechanical watches accessible to a wider audience while maintaining Swiss manufacturing quality.
The Agon brand itself has an interesting history. Founded from one of the established Swiss Roskopf manufacturers, Agon produced mechanical watches for decades before disappearing during the Quartz Crisis, making surviving examples increasingly appealing to collectors of lesser-known Swiss brands and unusual vintage designs.
