Mixosaurus was a small to medium-sized ichthyosaur, not growing more than 2 metres (6.6 ft) in total length with small species not growing more than 1 metre (3.3 ft). 它是小到中型的鱼龙，总体长度不超过2米（6.6英尺），而较小的种类不超过1米（3.3英尺）。 It possessed a long tail with a low fin, suggesting it could have been a slow swimmer, but also possessed a dorsal fin for stability in the water. 它有较长的尾部和一个低矮的鳍，表明它可能游得较慢，但在水中也具备背鳍以保持稳定。 The paddle-like limbs were made up of five toes each, unlike the three toes found in later Ichthyosaurs. 那对划桨状的肢体由各自的五趾组成，与后来的鱼龙只有三趾不同。
