This bronze ikebana (生け花) flower vase is handcrafted by Hōun (峰雲，Harada Minekumo), a celebrated master of Takaoka Dōki (高岡銅器). It acts as a classic decorative metal vessel for Japanese tea rooms and household interior display.

Takaoka bronze casting boasts a heritage of more than 400 years and stands as Japan’s most representative metal craft. It is famous for seamless single-piece lost-wax casting, exclusive naturally mottled murashido (紫斑銅) patina formed via repeated heat patination and natural oxidation, as well as elaborate silver and gold zōgan (象嵌) carving and inlay techniques.

The vase features an elegant silhouette with a flared mouth, tall slender straight neck, full spherical bulbous belly and short stable foot base, sculpted with soft rounded lines and a well-balanced centre of gravity. The front belly surface is hand-chased with refined auspicious karakusa (唐草) scroll grass motifs. Precise narrow channels are carved into the bronze to hold solid silver wire tracing fluid twisting vine tendrils, with small solid gold inlay accents highlighting the focal curves of the pattern. The continuous flowing ornament symbolises lasting fortune and peace. The harmonious blend of teal-green and russet natural murashido (紫斑銅) bronze patina paired with silver and gold inlay creates a calm, sophisticated tone palette, fully embodying the restrained minimalist aesthetic of traditional Japanese metalwork. The reverse side is entirely plain and unadorned, letting the unique hand-cast mottled bronze patina texture become the focal visual element.

The whole vessel is cast as one seamless integrated piece through ancient lost-wax casting, without any joints or welding seams. The distinctive mottled murashido patina is developed through multiple cycles of high-temperature colour treatment and natural ageing. All production procedures including hand channel chasing, precious metal inlay insertion and surface polishing are finished entirely by hand. The bronze body is thick and dense, covered with smooth matte patina; embedded silver and gold lines are tightly fixed and wear-resistant, representing the standard craftsmanship of premium master-made Takaoka bronze wares from the mid Shōwa era.

This vessel is crafted by Hōun (峰雲，Harada Minekumo), a leading core master of mid-Shōwa Takaoka bronze craft. He specialised in lost-wax casting and precious metal zōgan (象嵌) inlay, skilled at creating vessels decorated with floral, auspicious beast and karakusa scroll grass motifs, and received the official Japanese Traditional Craft Promotion Medal (日本伝統工芸振興勲章).

A square intaglio artist seal carved with “Hōun (峰雲)” is engraved centrally inside the indented circular base. This exclusive personal maker’s signature seal distinguishes the work from mass-produced generic workshop goods. The complete set includes its original paulownia wood tomobako (桐木箱) storage box and dedicated yellow silk fukusa (袱布) wrapping cloth.

Consistent with its long years of existence, the bronze surface bears uneven natural colour oxidation and minor wear marks from long-term storage and gentle use. The vase has no dents, deformation, cracks or later restorations; overall condition is good relative to its age.
