卖家的描述
Description:
CLASSIFICATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION
Species: Stegosaurus stenops (Marsh, 1887)
Period: Late Jurassic (Kimmeridgian-Tithonian, approx. 155 - 150 million years ago)
Geographical Origin of Historical Specimens: North America (Morrison Formation)
Replica Dimensions: Length 20 cm, Maximum width (spike to spike) 22 cm
ANATOMICAL AND PALEONTOLOGICAL DETAILS
This lot features a highly detailed, scaled osteological replica of the distal portion of a Stegosaurus tail, scientifically recognized as the "thagomizer". This specific anatomical structure represents one of the most iconic defensive adaptations in dinosaur evolution.
Caudal Morphology: The model accurately reproduces the terminal caudal vertebrae and the four hypertrophied dermal spikes (osteoderms). The angle and orientation of the spikes reflect the current paleontological consensus, illustrating how they protruded horizontally to inflict maximum structural damage against contemporary apex predators such as Allosaurus.
Surface Osteology: The replica captures fine anatomical features, including the pronounced vascular grooves (blood vessel channels) along the spikes, which in life supported a keratinous sheath, making the weapons even longer and sharper than the fossilized bone alone.
MATERIALS AND TECHNICAL EXECUTION
The replica is crafted from high-resolution polymer resin. The surface finish is entirely hand-painted, utilizing advanced acrylic wash techniques and dry-brushing to replicate the taphonomic permineralization typical of Jurassic fossils.
DISPLAY AND MOUNTING
The specimen is securely mounted on a custom-designed ABS display base, providing a stable and elegant presentation. The contrasting matte finish of the base enhances the natural fossil tones of the replica, making it an ideal piece for scientific study, natural history collections, or private exhibitions.
