卖家的描述
Sonotone Carbon Hearing Aid Set in Original Case (c. 1935–1940) – Complete – No Reserve
A rare and exceptionally well-preserved Sonotone carbon/ bakelite hearing aid set, manufactured by the Sonotone Corporation, New York, during the mid to late 1930s.
Complete with its original fitted presentation case, this early portable hearing aid represents an important milestone in the evolution of personal medical technology.
Before the introduction of miniature vacuum tubes and transistorized hearing aids, devices like this relied on carbon microphone technology. Incoming sound compressed carbon granules inside the transmitter, varying the electrical current supplied by an external battery to amplify speech. Sonotone was among the world's leading manufacturers of hearing aids during this pioneering era.
This complete set includes:
Original faux tortoiseshell bakelite/ carbon microphone/transmitter with Sonotone "S" emblem
Sonotone receiver/amplifier module
Connector block
Original fabric-covered multi-core cable with proprietary connectors
Original fitted hard presentation case with purple velvet interior
The attractive faux tortoiseshell finish, combined with the luxurious purple-lined case, makes this set particularly appealing to collectors of early medical instruments, Bakelite design, and Art Deco technology.
The set remains in excellent original condition with only minor age-related wear. The case is complete with working clasp and retains its original interior. The electrical functionality has not been tested due to its age and rarity.
A beautiful and increasingly rare museum-worthy example of 1930s assistive technology from one of America's most important hearing aid manufacturers.
