Exterior painted in typical bright and strong Nyonya palette, both with same decor but changed colors. Each with four medallions depicting 'Double Happiness' symbols in pink circle on dense ground of peony blossom and foliage. Band of stylized petals above the foot. Band of black swirls on green ground, between iron red lines under the top-rim. Each with later openwork, finely carved hardwood cover.

Straits Chinese Porcelain - intended for the Straits Chinese community in the former Straits Settlements of Penang, Malacca and Singapore. An older term is Nonya (Nyonya) ware, referring to porcelain used by married Chinese women of some standing, in Malaysia.

Peranakan meaning 'local born', is a name for the descendants of the early Chinese immigrants in the Malacca straits area, and also for their unique culture. Chinese porcelain made for the Straits-Chinese has its own unique designs often similar to the textile patterns worn by the peranakan women, called nyonyas.

Daylight pictures included.

Dimensions: height with cover - 24.5 / 24.0 cm; without cover - 21.4 / 20.4 cm; diameter – c. 21 cm.
Weight with cover - 2238 / 2119; weight without cover - 2102 / 1992 kg.

Provenance: Belgian private collection.

Conditions report: one in excellent condition, no damages. One with chips to the top-rim. Minimal age-related wear to the painted decor. Minor firing faults to include internal glaze hairlines, not going through. One cover in perfect condition, one with few old restorations. Check pictures for details.
