An elegant ceramic flower vase by the renowned Kyoto ceramic artist Kanzan Shinkai, one of the leading figures in postwar Kyoto ware. The vase features a slender baluster form with an organic silhouette, decorated with distinctive raised turquoise-blue spotted motifs set against a textured ivory-colored surface. The sculptural decoration and rich tactile texture are characteristic of Shinkai's innovative approach to modern Kyoto ceramics.

Shinkai successfully combined traditional Kyoto ceramic techniques with a modern aesthetic, producing works that emphasize warmth, texture, and refined design. His ceramic art earned numerous prestigious honors, including the Minister of Education Award and the Japan Art Academy Prize.

The base is signed 「寛山」 (Kanzan) and the original signed wooden tomobako (storage box) is included.

The vase is in excellent condition with no noticeable chips, cracks, or repairs. Please refer to the photographs for the overall condition.

A fine collector's piece by one of the most celebrated Kyoto ceramic masters of the Shōwa and Heisei eras.

Artist Profile

Kanzan Shinkai (1912–2011) was a distinguished Kyoto ceramic artist and a prominent figure in modern Kiyomizu ware. Born into a family of celebrated potters connected to the Seifu Yohei lineage, he studied under Kiyomizu Rokubei V and became one of the leading exhibitors at the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (Nitten). His achievements include the Minister of Education Award, the Japan Art Academy Prize, and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. His works are held in major museum collections and are admired for their harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Items will be shipped from Japan via Japan Post with a tracking number.
Due to the current international situation, shipments may occasionally be sent via DHL instead. In such cases, a tracking number will be provided before dispatch.

Any import duties, VAT, customs taxes, or handling fees imposed by the destination country are the responsibility of the buyer.
