Description
An impressive antique Indian Paan Dan (Betel Box), handcrafted in copper and comprising a complete 10-piece set.
The box features a domed cover richly decorated with hand-worked floral and foliate ornamentation. The body is embellished with punched and repoussé decorative motifs, while the original forged chains, locking mechanism and substantial brass carrying handle remain intact, contributing to both the functionality and visual appeal of the piece.
The interior contains its original fitted components, including removable trays and multiple containers traditionally intended for storing and serving the ingredients associated with paan (betel preparation), such as aromatic spices, condiments and other accompanying elements. The complete arrangement reflects the ceremonial and social importance of paan within the Indian cultural tradition.
Constructed from thick hand-worked copper sheets, the piece displays traditional craftsmanship throughout, including hammer-work, chased decoration and hand-finished details. The underside and interior further reveal the methods of traditional manufacture and assembly.
