This magnificent earthenware duo from the Belgian manufacture Boch Frères La Louvière beautifully illustrates the late Art Deco style of the 1940s under the artistic direction of Raymond Chevalier, showcasing the famous floral pattern named Shanghai. The set consists of a large lobed presentation plate and a matching ovoid vase, both adorned with a rich hand-painted motif of blooming fuchsia roses, bright azure flowers, and brown foliage over a luminous cream background, all enhanced by generous fine gold accents. The wall plate or serving dish weighs a solid 1500 grams with a diameter of 33.5 centimeters and a height of 7 centimeters, bearing on its base the manufacture stamp, the shape reference number 1051 impressed in the clay, the letter A indicating the piece size, and the artist number 21, while its ribbed sections highlighted in gold give it a superb geometric presence. The ovoid vase, a perfect tabletop companion, weighs 650 grams with a height of approximately 16 centimeters, a maximum belly diameter of 11 centimeters, and a neck opening of 55 millimeters, revealing for its part the shape number 1485 also incised in the body and accompanied by the exact same painter mark 21. Both pieces are in good overall condition, with the earthenware retaining all its original brilliance, showing only some normal, light loss of gilding on the upper rims and reliefs that authentically whispers of their past history. A highly colorful and inseparable decorative pair, perfect for completing a Boch Frères collection or for adding a touch of retro freshness and vintage elegance to a contemporary interior.
