Who’s Looking at Who
Executed in acrylic on canvas, Who’s Looking at Who explores the subtle tension between observer and observed. Constructed from bold black geometric forms against a warm off-white background, the composition balances abstraction and portraiture in a way that feels both contemporary and timeless. The face is reduced to its essential elements, yet remains remarkably expressive.
The asymmetrical eyes immediately draw attention. One appears open and direct, the other quieter and more introspective, creating the impression of two perspectives existing within a single presence. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the painting invites a silent exchange with the viewer, raising the question suggested by its title: who is truly observing whom?
Expressive splatters, layered brushwork and visible traces of the artist’s hand soften the graphic composition, adding depth and tactility to the surface. Three understated crosses along the right edge introduce a subtle symbolic element, enriching the work without prescribing a specific interpretation.
With its restrained palette, confident forms and powerful visual presence, Who’s Looking at Who is equally suited to contemporary interiors, gallery spaces and modern architectural settings, where its simplicity rewards repeated viewing.
